SDG WEEK 3: Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development

In week 3, the topic is about Maqasid Shariah and Sustainable Development. Maqasid al-Shariah, which refers to the higher objectives of Islamic law such as the preservation of faith, life, intellect, lineage, and property. They provides a comprehensive ethical framework that aligns closely with the principles of sustainable development. Both aim to ensure long-term well-being and justice by balancing human needs with social, economic, and environmental responsibilities. Through values like moderation (wasatiyyah), social justice, accountability, and protection of resources, Maqasid al-Shariah supports sustainable development goals by promoting responsible consumption, safeguarding human dignity, reducing harm, and ensuring equitable distribution of wealth. Ultimately, the synergy between Maqasid al-Shariah and sustainable development highlights how Islamic principles contribute to creating a balanced, just, and resilient society for present and future generations. As sustainable development strive for a balance in economy, social and environment, Islam too drives a balance between the three to maintain efficient and effective resource usage.
